Bad Monkey Jr.
A 1/10th scale remote control Monster Truck that I, Mark Filipowicz, designed and built from scratch back in 1999.
I used Autodesk’s AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop software to design the truck as a 3D Solid Model then machined all of the custom components myself at Polcraft
Thinking back, man was that brutal. The Solid modeling software of today is so much more powerful! Over the years Mechanical Desktop turned into Inventor and I used every release up until 2014. In 2012 a new job opportunity encouraged me to learn Solidworks, that I still use and more recently, I have used Onshape for the last 3 years.
Design
The three pictures below are taken with the camera and light positions matched to the CAD model. You can see the shadows are even in the same place!

Same pose but with a clear body on the truck
Style
The pictures below show the three different paint jobs on the custom made bodies. I made an insert that Parma used to custom draw these bodies with a tonneau cover so it would clear my suspension.
This one was featured in Radio Control Car Action Magazine.

Build
The pictures below show the truck in various stages of manufacture and assembly. Keep in mind if you see pictures of me, this was 25 years ago! All this work was performed by me over the course of 1 year including the design. You will see various forms of machining here including EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining). This project was featured twice in a trade publication called EDM Today.
Action
The pictures below show the truck in action! Locations include Pismo Beach, Ukiah, and my home track. The truck has a 2 position gearbox that can be manually set. High speed allows it to launch off dunes and low speed allows it to rock crawl.
