Bad Monkey Jr. My custom designed and built 1/10th scale 4X4 Monster Truck

		Bad Monkey Jr. is a 1/10th scale remote control Monster Truck that I, Mark Filipowicz designed and built from scratch. I used Autodesk's AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop software to design the truck as a 3D Solid Model then machined all of the custom components myself at Polcraft inc . The project took 1 year but I havent been able to stop improving on the design so I've put quite a few hours into it this year. Bad Monkey Jr. started out on January 4, 1999 as an idea and on September 14, 1999 Jr. took its first test drive and was complete on October 31, 1999. The initial design was complete in February along with a full set of prints but the design has evolved considerably since then. The first "chips" were cut on February 20, 1999. Once Jr. was completed, I evaluated the initial design for any weakness and have since made some changes to further "hone in" an already awesome truck. There have been 2 major modifications and a few upgrades since and some more new stuff coming up! These 4 CAD renderings show the Model in its previous state after the dual steering servo modification in January 2000. The 7 views of the model in the Dynamic View Generator above shows the current model (September 2000) including the August 2000 axle / steering / suspension mods and some future mods as well.	Taking a test drive on Mars is easy to accomplish with Mechanical Desktop Solid Modeling software. The Model is rendered over a background image that was taken by NASA's Pathfinder on the surface of Mars (NASA had the difficult part). The CAD file is currently 27.7MB in size and has over 330 hours of my time invested in it. The file contains over 500 Solid Models and over 300 drawing views on 40 drawing sheets (11X17). These 4 renderings started out as 1152X900 32bit .tga files that took about 10 minutes each to render on my old computer (300mhz)! The Newer Renderings in the Dynamic View Generator still took about 2 minutes each on my new 800mhz RDRAM computer. Bad Monkey Jr was featured in the "home built" section of RCCA Magazine in July 2000. A similar rendering to the one's on the left was published in Mechanical Solutions Magazine in August of 1999.
