Launch of my new website!

Welcome to my website!
I first created it in 1999 by hand coding HTML!
I recently updated it to WordPress, Enjoy!
Born in San Jose, CA in 1970, I started making things as soon as I was able to ride a bike! Of course there may have been some Lego’s involved before then as well.
During my adolescence, I built my own clubhouses and skateboard ramps while also exploring electronics, soldering basic circuits, and honing my tinkering skills. I also took up cycling and playing guitar as hobbies.
After graduating high school in 1988, I immediately started working as a machinist at Polcraft, a family business. I quickly mastered the manual Bridgeport Mill, Tool Room Lathes, Surface Grinders , and Sinker EDM. It was in 1991 that we bought our first Wire EDM and that’s when I was first introduced to the world of CNC machines and more importantly, CAD/CAM and programming Gcode.
At that time parts had to be drawn in CAD from information taken from dimensioned drawings to be able to apply CAM toolpaths to control CNC machines. I took a liking to drawing in CAD and wanted to learn to make my own designs. Outside of work I purchased a student version of AutoCAD release 11 and that was the beginning of my Engineering career! I watched CAD‘s evolution over the years as I learned AutoCAD that grew into Designer, then Mechanical Desktop, and then Inventor.
I was machining the parts for, and assembling lots of tooling for the hard disk drive industry at the time. I started showing our customers some of my designs and offered advise on how they could improve their tooling designs function and manufacturability, soon they started asking me to design tools for them! So I was designing tooling at night, and building those designs during the day for many years.
Eventually I became so involved in the engineering side of things, I was hired out of the machine shop into Capella Photonics in 2008 as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. I still to this day consult on some of the more challenging machining projects but I have been employed full time as an Engineer since then.
Scroll down for a deeper look into the things I have created both in my profession as well as personal projects I did just for fun!
Explore the links below to learn about some of the things that I have created being a part of some amazing teams. In most cases I was the only Mechanical Engineer on the team. I worked closely with others like Optical and Robotics Engineers. I have been involved in product design as well as production of those products and in some cases I actually made some or all of the components myself.
